Maps Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
Marketing site for a licensed Pretoria refrigeration and aircon company: real customer reviews, real service area, real brand identity, delivered in days.
The Problem
Maps Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, a newly CIPC-registered refrigeration and aircon company serving Midrand, Centurion, and Pretoria, had no web presence beyond a physical decal and word of mouth, no way for a prospective customer to see real reviews, service coverage, or credibility signals before calling.
The Goal
Design and ship a fast, credible landing site from the client’s own concept video, built around real trust signals researched from local competitors, years-in-business framing, named brand partnerships, certification badges, real customer quotes, rather than generic stock-template copy.
Overview
A GSAP/Lenis-animated Astro landing site for Maps Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, covering 11+ services across residential, commercial, and industrial AC/refrigeration, with 5 real customer reviews (name, suburb, photo) and a new logo, deployed on AWS Amplify with a custom domain.
Architecture
Services Used
- • AWS Amplify
- • Amazon Route 53 (custom domain)
- • AWS Certificate Manager
- • Astro
- • GSAP
- • Lenis
- • Embla Carousel
Engineering Decisions
- • Researched local refrigeration/aircon competitor sites before writing the brief, and built the page structure around what actually moves a browser to call: years-in-business as a headline stat, named brand partnerships (Samsung, TCL, Midea, Carrier), and real named customer quotes over generic star-rating claims.
- • Built the content/brand intake as a standalone form (Lambda + SES + API Gateway) so the client could submit real business details, photos, and video without a back-and-forth over email, then decommissioned it once its job was done, keeping the shipped site to a single static Amplify app with no ongoing backend.
- • Resolved a real domain-association failure, Amplify rejected the client’s freshly-purchased domain because it had no DNS zone yet, with a manually-requested, DNS-validated ACM certificate attached as a custom cert, rather than waiting on the client to configure nameservers first.
Tradeoffs
- • A fixed-fee, fast-turnaround engagement (live within days of kickoff) meant no custom backend or CMS: content changes go through a direct handoff rather than a client-editable dashboard.
- • Logo and brand identity were derived from a physical decal reference rather than a full brand workshop, trading a slower, more exploratory design process for speed.
Key Insights
- • For a brand-new, unknown local service business, real named customer reviews with suburb and photo did more credibility work than any amount of design polish.
- • A domain bought without its DNS zone configured yet is a common small-business gap, building a manual ACM-cert fallback into the deploy process avoided blocking launch on the client fixing that themselves.
